Potions Substitute, Lesson 4 - First Years Empty
PostSubject: Potions Substitute, Lesson 4 - First Years   Potions Substitute, Lesson 4 - First Years EmptyThu May 31, 2012 6:11 pm

Parker walked down the stairs into the dungeons, feeling the familiar chill. He walked down the corridor where the potions classroom was. He pulled out his wand as he approached the door, unlocking it before he swung the door open and walked in. He looked around nervously, setting his stack of papers on an empty spot on the desk. He cleared his throat as he started to feel himself choke up. Pyxis would be okay...she had to be. He refused to believe otherwise. He shook his head slightly, taking the top paper and looking over the class list so he could make sure everyone came when class started.
Class List:
Carey Matthews, Jamie Wright, Rubi Wright, Meliae Winters,
Aislin Swandeth, Biabin Conway, Hannah Dursley, Tati Devit, Alexis Potter,
Humphrey Williams, Olivia Harrison, Ethan Creston
Wow, certainly a lot of students compared to his small class. This might me nice if they behave. He didn't quite know what to go over with them at first, but with a sleepless night he'd had to time to come up with some ideas. He knew Pyxis was way better at potions then him. The only stuff he could brew well were healing potions, he wasn't the best teacher of it either, but he'd do his best. He turned to the board to write, hearing the students start to enter the room. He wrote, 'Forgetfulness Potion' with the respective page numbers written underneath. It was fairly simple, good for the ending lesson.

He turned back to the class as the seats filled. "Hello, I'm Healer Emery, the school healer if you didn't know. Uhm, I'm going to be temporarily covering this class for Potions Mistress Wilson." he cleared his throat, looking over all the students. "The potion you will be brewing today is the forgetfulness potion, a simple potion which as the name suggests causes memory loss." he looked over to the ingredient cabinet and table. "All the ingredients and tools that you need have already been set out. You may go get them now. If anyone needs any help, just raise your hand." He then nodded, signalling them to start and walk back over to the desk to sit down. He then added as he sat down. "There is a long period of time in which you will be waiting. In that time, can you please write a summary of what you have learned from this class and what you liked about it?"

Forgetfulness Potion, page 157
1. Add 2 drops of Lethe River Water to your cauldron
2. Gently heat for 20 seconds
3. Add 2 Valerian Sprigs to your cauldron
4. Stir 3 times, clockwise
5. Wave your wand
6. Leave to brew and return in 45 minutes (Time is usually 95 minutes which makes the effects of the potion more potent. Time can be cut out if needed. No less then 30 minutes, however.)
7. Add 2 measures of Standard Ingredient to the mortar
8. Add 4 Mistletoe Berries to the mortar
9. Crush into a medium-fine powder using the pestle
10. Add 2 pinches of the crushed mixture to your cauldron
11. Stir 5 times, anti-clockwise
12. Wave your wand to complete the potion

Ethan entered the room, hoping he wasn't late. He smiled a little and made his way towards the seats in the back. He sat down, listening to Healer Emery as he talked about the lesson for today. After the Healer finished, Ethan walked towards the cupboard, getting some of the first few things needed. He went back to his desk and took out his cauldron.

Reading the instructions on the board, he carefully added 2 drops of Lethe River Water to his cauldron. Then he heated it for 20 seconds, stopping just at the right moment. He added 2 Valerian Springs to his cauldron, stirring it 3 times, clockwise, afterwards. He then waved his wand and sat down for a while, waiting for the potion to brew for 95 minutes to make it just fine. Ethan looked at his watch, noticing that he should already add 2 measures of Standard Ingredient to the mortar. So he did, carefully, and added 4 Mistletoe Berries.

He started to crush it until it turned into a medium-fine powder and then added 2 pinches of the mixture to his cauldron. He mixed it counter-clockwise, until he was supposed to stop, and waved his wand to finish.

Jamie walked along to the potions room, her hand running through her hair as she did so. She was sad that Rubi no longer took potions with her, but used this as an opportunity to make more friends. She entered the classroom with a happy smile on her face, though there was also confusion as she saw her muggle studies professor - Healer Emery - there, writing on the board. She went and sat down at the front, listening to the instructions she was given. She watched the way he seemed to struggle to say their normal Professor's name.

She waited until everyone else had gotten their ingredients before gathering hers. She looked at the professor with concern before going back to her seat and starting on the potion. She added 2 drops of lethe river water to her cauldron, then turned the heat on and waited 20 seconds before switching it off. She picked out 2 valerian sprigs and carefully let them fall into the cauldron as well. She looked up at the board and held out her hand to judge which way was clockwise. She then stirred three times, clockwise and looked to the board for the next set of instructions. She waved her wand over the cauldron and then looked around for something to do.

After 45 minutes of reading one of her favourite, muggle books, she was ready to continue with the potion. Reluctantly, she slid the bookmark into place and put her book back into her bag. She measured out the standard ingredient than added two measures. She picked out 4 mistletoe berries and dropped them in the mortar. She picked up the pestle and spent time to ground them into a very fine powder. Once she deemed said powder perfect, she added 2 pinches to the cauldron. She stirred five times anti-clockwise, then waved her wand to complete the potion.

Potions Substitute, Lesson 4 - First Years Empty
PostSubject: Re: Potions Substitute, Lesson 4 - First Years   Potions Substitute, Lesson 4 - First Years EmptyMon Jun 04, 2012 6:15 am

Carey made his way down the corridor from the Slytherin common room, glad that the two places were in such close proximity. He walked into the classroom with the few other early students, seeing a hufflepuff boy he'd never met before. Going to take the seat near said hufflepuff boy, Carey gave a small smile and nod to Meliae. He felt like the two of them hadn't talked in ages since they got to school. He admittedly kind of missed her.

Carey didn't even bother to try to look at the board, knowing that with his poor eyesight he'd not be able to read it. He pulled out his book, but hearing the voice of the Muggle studies professor, Carey looked up from it a bit confused. he shook his head slightly, wondering about their regular professor as he opened up to the index to find the page number for the forgetfulness potion. He traced is finger over the instructions and ingredients, a moment later getting up to grab said ingredients. It took him longer then he would have liked, having to read closely at the labels to what which one was. What a pain.

After more then one trip back to his desk, he set all the ingredients he needed down before him next to his cauldron. He began with the two drops like the directions stated and he then raised the heat up low, counting to twenty in his head before shutting it off again. he then added the sprigs, stirring three times clockwise as he reached for his wand from his waistband of his trousers. He waved his wand over the contents of the cauldron and then set his wand down. He set the timer for 50 minutes and leaned back in his seat with a sigh. He yawned and rubbed his eyes, deciding he was going to use the time to take a nap. He folded his arms on the desk and rested his head down.

When the time passed by, he lifted his head, turning off the small timer. He sat up straight and stretched in his seat. Rubbing his eyes again, he looked over to the standard ingredient, putting in two measure of it to the cauldron. He then reached for the berries, grabbing a small handful, though not counting out exactly four. He crushed them in the mortar and added about two pinches of it into the cauldron. He yawned as he then grabbed the stirrer, stirring the potion 5...or wait did he accidentally do 6 times anti clockwise. Carey cursed under his breath to himself for not paying attention. As he waved his wand one last time and leaned back in his seat.

Potions Substitute, Lesson 4 - First Years Empty
PostSubject: Re: Potions Substitute, Lesson 4 - First Years   Potions Substitute, Lesson 4 - First Years EmptyWed Jun 06, 2012 3:28 am

Parker watched all the students go about their ways silently. He tried to work on some of the paperwork he brought down with him from the Hospital wing, but he couldn't concentrate long enough to get much done. These kids were very thorough in their work he noticed. He remembered as a kid sitting and watching the other kids work on their potions. Some didn't take the class very seriously, but these guys seemed to really like doing this. It was refreshing, to be honest. He smiled a little as they all began to take their breaks while they waited. He tried to get back to his paperwork.

When they were finished and began to raise their hand, he got up from his seat with a small sigh. He smiled as he walked up to the Ravenclaw girl, looking over into her cauldron. "Oh, very nice, it looks to be the perfect colour." he then leaned down a bit to take a small sniff before standing back up making a slight face from the bad smell."Smells like it should as well. Very good, 10 points to Ravenclaw."Seeing the Jamie raise her hand he then made his way over to her giving a small smile to her. He looked over her shoulder into the cauldron. "Very nice, Ms. Wright, I can see you put much effort into this." he leaned down to smell is and leaned back up, "Very good, ten points to Hufflepuff!"

Seeing that the other Hufflepuff was still waiting, Parker moved on to Mr. Matthews, peeking over into the cauldron. The boy had seemed a bit distracted and didn't put his best effort into the potion like the others. "Hm, it seems to be very close Mr. Matthews, but I have a feeling you could have done much better. 5 points to Slytherin." he said before making his way around to the Hufflepuff boy who was just finishing up. Parker was very impressed with his patience. "Oh, wow, this is really fantastic, Mr. Creston. Hm, 15 points to Hufflepuff for the patience you had to do the full time! Very excellent."

He walked back to the front of the class room, telling them all farewell and good luck and to never stop practicing and learning more before dismissing them.
